Party Hard, Recover Slow

TGI Friday is the resounding phrase echoed across the country at the end of the week. After we had all had a long week at our various places of work, I rounded up the troops to put on our dancing shoes and simply have a good boogie. It was almost like a mini university reunion, and for the first time since graduation I'd managed to meet up with my friend Sarah who I first met when I attempted to join my university photography society. I say attempt as from that very first meeting I knew I was way out of my depth, my trusted but little SLR was mightily overshadowed by some of the big league players in the room.

A quick brush out of the office hair bun, a swap of the safe nude to vampy red lips, and we soon ready for Jalouse. TGI Friday!

Reunion with my sister from another mister, Nessa. I don't miss university, but I do miss seeing my best friend everyday. Who would have thought I'd want to go back to the days where we'd sit at the back of the computer science lectures trying not to snooze as Data Structures was discussed AGAIN.

Without realising, turns out we'd gone to Eve and Lil Kim's convert after party. I'll fully admit, I'm not cool enough to really know who they are fully, so when the crowd went wild for this woman, I wasn't too sure which one she was. Awkward moment.

Knowing me I was probably pointing at completely the wrong person, hence the confused expression.

Although when 'Tambourine' came on, I soon remembered Eve and my classic Friday night dance moves...

Thank God it's Friday? The next day I might have been cursing that very phrase. I so badly wanted to bury my face in my pillow and stay there until Monday morning, but instead I remembered I'd promised to meet up with Helen, and so I dragged my sorry ass out of bed and onto a tube. This was going to be a slow recovery.

Upon arrival, I was greeted with 'I need food. ASAP!' Had someone else been burning the late night candle? Hurrah, a hangover friend!

Having only recently discovered the delight that is GBK, I decided it was time I paid another visit- you know, to make sure that it wasn't a one time yummy fluke.

Helen decided on the classic Cheese Burger. I read only last week that dairy was one of the best things for alcohol recovery. So with that in mind I decided to go one better-

GBK (4)

The Camemburger. A beef pattie with Camembert, truffle mayo, onion jam, and relish. Oh and did I forget to mention a hash brown too! A new take on the classic hangover fully English.

We also decided on a side of their sweet potato fries which I immediately doused in their GBK salt. This stuff is the business. Dare I say its the new Nando's piri piri salt?

Normally as soon as our food arrives, me and Helen are like vultures to a carcass, but today it looked like it was going to be a much slower affair.

GBK (7)

So much so that the unthinkable happened. Food was left on the plate. A repeat, food was left on the plate.

We may not have polished off our plates, but boy was our burgers good. Hash brown in a burger? Forget bacon, this is my new go to recovery food.

With our heads slowly returning to their rightful state, we chatted about our Friday nights. It made me realise that even though I don't see my friends everyday any more, it makes it even more special when I do see them; Nessa one night, Helen the other, and so suddenly I really am saying TGI Friday, for its friends night.

Although by all means thank God its Friday, but thank him even more its Saturday!

  5. GBK is awesome but over-priced if you don't have discount codes in my opinion! I love the ceiling in Jalouse! You can always end up at an after-party there lol! So funny!
