One of my favourite phone apps in Flipboard. If you haven’t tried it, go do it now. It’s your own personal magazine, where you can add content from across the web, news and magazines so you only have to read what you want to read. In my Flipboard, I have food, tech and style to name a few, and it was in the style section that I saw the declaration from The Guardian that Grunge was back! Oh joy…

IMG_7168

To me Grunge screams scruffy, casual teenagers. Whether right, I just associate it with well, looking like you just need a good bath- hey, maybe after V Fest I was actually pulling off grunge after all!

Yet never let it be said I don’t rise to a challenge, so in true fashion slave style I put my own twist in it to give you Grown-Up Grunge.

Pairing a skull jumper with a sleek shirt gives it an adult feel. This jumper is perfect as it isnt too classic punk making styling it up easier. Plus at £19.99 its a steal. Wax jeans are the perfect middle ground for the unsure souls and off course heels will always glams up any outfit.

I had a discussion with my yesterday actually about pulling off different styles. She asked me why I could always pull off a trend. While I don’t agree with this (Trust me I did not pull off the skirt over trousers look in the 90s) I believe you can always work a look so long as you tailor it personally to you. I will never be grunge, but a few twists here and there and I can work the trend into a style that suits me.

So net time you love a trend, don’t be afraid to rework it to your style. You don’t need to go full on out, because let’s face it we don’t all suit the same styles. And that’s OK, that’s the beauty of fashion- it CAN be for everyone!

For one weekend only, every year it feels like Notting Hill is transformed into the happiest place on earth. The sound of reggae, calypso and dance hall fill the air for miles as do the smells of Caribbean and West Indie food while everyone dances and smiles in a sea of multi coloured sequins.

Forget going out getting legless at a local pub or other traditional bank holiday sports, pass me my feathers!

Undeterred by the 8am start I put my ity-bity shorts on, passed over my heels and out came the sneakers. Sneakers? On The Heroine in Heels? Things must be serious.

Me and my friends weaved our way to the front of the crowds and got right in dancing and singing along to the multi-coloured processions.

In a constant sea of sequins, glitter and feathers, no matter what your age, what your background, or your ability, everyone is welcome at the carnival.

While I love the parades I’m not going to lie, the food is one of my favourite parts. Traditional Caribbean smells waft through the air. Think charred barbequed meats met with tangy spices.

But of course it had to be Jerk Chicken, Rice and Peas and homemade slaw.

The rest of the day we got right in wit the crowds and dances in the streets. I would like to think that I gave Miley a run for her money with my Twerking. However before long we decided to make swift exit, as into the evening things start to get a little leery.

I can't wait to move to Lonodn on Sunday, bring on more London traditions!

Adult soft play (2)

Being a kid was amazing. Running around the park, swinging from trees, grazed knees and muddy hands. Then there were the birthday parties with the bouncy castles, the party games and not forgetting the jelly and ice cream. We had it all didn’t we? Know what? Being a grown up isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

So given the opportunity, who wouldn’t want to want to be a big kid? And that’s what I did last night, as I spent the evening at an adult soft play area. Ohhh dreams do come true sometimes.

My mum works for a local charity; Playability who put on play schemes for children with severe and profound disabilities. I used to volunteer when I was in high school, and I cannot stress enough what an absolutely amazing charity it is. The staff and volunteers are absolute saints as it is an incredibly hard job. So every year at the end of summer Playability take them all somewhere as a thank you, and this year they chose Jelly Beans an indoor soft play area.

By day it is a standard ids play area, but by night the lights dim, the music starts to thump hard, and the adults come out to play.

Better still, while everyone wants to play being big kid, the adult competitive streak is still there, so what do they do? They give us guns. Laser tag in a giant soft play area!

They even locked us in. Clearly things were getting serious…

Lazer tag (3)

…Yep, defiantly serious.

But fear not I was prepared. Battle stations!

OK, coming second to last was not how I envisaged this. Time to get my COD on!

We crouched round the giant foam beams, skipped over the wonky planks, flung ourselves down the zip wire until we yielded in a breathless heap, After literally burning up a sweat for nearly 2 hours- how did I do this as a kid?- we spied another opportunity to flex some healthy competition. The climbing wall.

Now after being a guide in my younger days and going on quite a few adventure days, I was pretty confident in my ability.

What I didn’t anticipate was my OWN MOTHER beating me. She is a climbing wall God!

Of course, every adults dream is to dive right into that ball pool. I just couldn’t resist it.

After last night who wants to be an adult I say, I think I’d much rather go back to playing in ball pools, climbing trees and making mud pies. Forget this office working lark! Who’s with me?

I went to Jelly Beans in Warrington,
If you are in the area, make sure you book a session. You wont regret it.
