Getting Summer Ready With Wilkinson Sword

Wednesday 11 May 2016

Do I see a little bit of summer peaking through? Well if this weekend here in England was anything to go by, I think it might well be on it's way.

It does mean we will probably need to throw away our tights ladies, and let our legs see natural light for the first time in about 6 months. I don't know about you, but I get rather lazy in winter when it comes to looking after my legs. Meh, no one will see them, I think. But come summer there is no where to hide, and especially now that bikini season is upon us, as that means one thing- grooming, if you know what I mean.

It can be a pain, and a literal one if you use a traditional razor blade, which is why I've been trying out the new Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Bikini and also the Quattro for Women razor's especially for summer.

They invited my to come have a bit of cheeky fun with them in the name of trimming. A topiary masterclass at one of London's top florist schools; Jamie Aston. Topiary, a bush... shaping a bush... I think I love these guys already!

If you are around the Marylebone area, I highly recommend popping into Jamie Aston. Also if not, just pop to his website, it's literally like a fashion magazine, so gorgeous. But then that reflects his shop. Hundreds of flowers on the tables, the walls and the floor. The smell is so beautiful and of course it's an instagrammers dream.

I love that Wilkinson Sword teamed up with him, as let's be honest, us British girls, we find conversations like shaving our legs and tiding up a little bit awkward. So by making it fun and a little cheeky, it's saying, hey, it's OK, we got this.

I've been using these two razors since the event as I've got a couple of summer holidays coming up, and I have to say I'm genuinely impressed. I have quite uneven skin, so I get nicks quite a bit if I don't have an adequate moisture barrier. Oh and don't even get me started on my bikini area!

I took the Quattro for Women to Lanzarote with me as even though the trimmer is electric, it's actually waterproof. I find on holiday I don't want to faff around too much, so this means I can just hop in the shower and not have to think too much. The blades are also really good. They have four wire wrapped ones, which means they stop the dreaded red bumps you get from irritated skin, which when you're on holiday, you don't have a day or two to let them go down.

I've particularly fallen in love a bit with the Hydro Silk Bikini, as with Hydro in the name, if you are like me, this ones a winner. As well as two moisture strips at either end, they actually have these little pores in them which release actual moisturiser as you shave. But also out of the two, for bikini this one again is the winner. Flip it around and it's a trimmer too. I love a one shop simple tool. I've had other trimmers before and well without going into that much detail (see I'm being all British now) they just weren't close enough. But the Hydro Silk it has 5 curve sensing fine little blades, meaning you can get a very close trim in all those awkward places, so you can feel as sleek as a dolphin afterwards.

Back at Jamie Aston though, it was time to get green fingered.

The man himself showed us how to make a topiary tree. Now if you are like me, and not very well versed in all things florist, here's what a topiary plant is.
nounthe art or practice of clipping shrubs or trees into ornamental shapes.
Don't you just love the connection between a razor and this? Bravo organiser.

It is actually quite fiddly as we were also including flowers into ours to give it a more girly and modern feel, which meant having to shape one of those water soaked foam blocks and encase it in wire. Anyone who knows me, will know, me cutting wire could be a recipe for disaster.

But I faired well that day.

It was soon time to start adding our creative touch and include the flowers. If you add flowers working one "corner" at a time, you soon to start building up a pattern.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist and so I was painstakingly snipping flowers down a few millimetre so they would all aline.

Snip, snip, snip...

And the final product is complete. My very own topiary plant. It's rather beautiful isn't it? I've actually got it here on my desk right now.

If you have any summer holidays, or even just a dip in your local pool, I'd highly recommend these two razors. It's not about making sure others won't judge, it's just about doing whatever makes you feel more confident with yourself.
