Radio Rooftop Afternoon Tea

Friday 10 June 2016

This weather is killing me here. One minute it is baking hot, the next it’s raining hard, I just never know what it’s going to be like. However on days when the sun is shining, it’s best to make the most of it, so why not do something quintessentially British and summery too? A rooftop afternoon tea is in order I think.

Radio is a rooftop bar above the ME Hotel. It’s got a bit of a reputation of the kind of place where the cool kids hang out. Leggy blondes taking Instagram photos, and men in Gucci slippers sipping champagne in the sun. However for all its cool kid vibe, it’s surprisingly welcoming for us regular folk. This mix is perfect though, as it means I get to indulge in a bit of people watching.

With sweeping views over London, it really is the ultimate place to go when the sun peaks out.

The Skyline afternoon tea is a modern take on classic British afternoon tea, and they also serve a champagne or a cocktail addition too (or both if you’re feeling like pushing the boat out.)

I decided to settle in with a glass of Billecart Rosé champagne with mine.

Radio being a bar, an alcoholic afternoon tea really is a wise move. My Rose was delicious.

The afternoon tea starts with your sandwiches. There are the traditional egg and salmon, but also a few new additions like compressed watermelon, feta and black olive tapenade and croque monsieur.

I'm a big fan of croque monsieur. so that went down a treat with me.

One stand feeds two people, so you get 6 different sandwiches, so no one will go hungry here.

The breads are nice and fresh, and the fillings are interesting enough to keep it varied. I didn't really care for the cucumber "bread" although I guess if you are trying to be low carb, then that might work.

It is also like an instagrammers dream.

Taking a break to admire the views, I did go for a cocktail too. I felt like one of those leggy blondes... except with out the blonde or the legs...

Next was the scone course, and yes they were warm. Soft and crispy, which made for a lovely combo.

There is also a little refresher of Liquid nitro fruit salad, Earl Grey mousse and popping candy, which I adored. I'd come just for this.

Finally the cake tower came. How pretty are these? Like works of art.

There was Lemon meringue, Hazelnut opera cake, Lemongrass, apricot and pistachio cake, Passion fruit tart, Raspberry and lychee sandwich and a Cheesecake and blackberry dome.

They are rich and sweet, so make sure you come with your sweet tooth. Although don't fear, they will box them up for you if you can't finish them. Maybe take them to a park for round two later?

Filled to the brim, but happy under the sun, I felt very content. I'd highly recommend Radio Bar afternoon tea this summer for a long, lazy get together with friends. Oh and don't forget your phone, you'll want to photograph this one alot!

  6. I definitely didn't even know that they did afternoon tea here, but oh god it looks delicious. I absolutely cannot wait to head there myself. I headed there for drinks a couple of Sundays ago - it was lovely albeit expensive.
