Riding to the Farmacy

Monday 13 June 2016

London has some amazing parks, but how often do we just get to have some down time and just explore with no real sense of purpose?

One of my favourite things to do is go for a nice long walk with my other half, usually we have no aim, we just start walking. You'll be amazed at what you find.

So now that I have a bike, I've turned to cycling with no real aim, just to get away and clear my head. However this weekend I had a little more aim, I was off to meet Phoebe from Wood and Luxe for a little girlie catch up, but first we met in Regent's Park to have a cute cycle around.

My beauty of a bike is an Electra Loft 3i in "Mango" although I call it ginger. We christened my bike, Ginger Rodgers.

She's a dream to ride and handle and makes me feel very lady like. I think I should invest in a basket, I could put fresh flowers and hot bread... oh it would be like all those Parisian movies I love.

After jauntily peddling, it was time for a spot of lunch to refuel after all our hard work.

Phoebe recommended a new spot in Notting hill called Farmacy.

Farmacy is a healthy, vegetarian and heavily vegan restaurant.Their mission is to provide clean indulgence that supports cooking that is free from dairy, refined sugars, additives and chemicals. It's all about the purest forms of food, with it still being delicious.

I have to admit, I'm not one for clean eating, so it was a new experience for me.

Phoebe and Snow White.

Me and Ginger Rodgers. All bikes should have names, no?

Inside it's very earth based. Contempory styled wood, trees and hanging plants, mixed with touches of brass.

I rarely come to Notting Hill, but I feel this is where Notting hill yummy mummys go.

After cycling, I was absolutly parched, so I decided to go for a liver cleansing Apple–aid made with cucumber, apple, lemon & mint. Being a cold pressed juice it wasn't cheap, coming in at £7 which I thought was very steep. Phoebe's Golden Milk, made from hot almond milk, turmeric & cardamom was more reasonable at £4.

Like I said, I don't really do clean eating, and I certainly don't do free from types of food, so I spent a good while deliberating. Would I go hungry? Would I choke on too many seeds? I was about to find out.

Phoebe ordered an Asian salad of seaweed, steamed seasonal greens, cucumber, mushrooms, radish & hemp seeds with a ginger miso dressing, which she then ordered some poached eggs on the side. Note, whilst it is heavily vegan, there are some non vegan options.

I decided to go for a familiar and safe choice. Eggs Florentine, but made dairy free and on vegan bread.

I was utterly surprised at how delicious it actually was. Dairy free hollandaise sauce sounds like trouble, but it still had a gorgeous creamy taste with the same punch of mustard. I did forget to ask what was in it instead of dairy, as that would have been interesting.

I also forgot that the bread was vegan as it tasted exactly the same as a normal loft, which again surprised me.

The only thing was that the portions are a bit on the small side, nothing crazy, but for the prices they are. So it's more a healthy treat.

Finally we had a small scoop each of vegan icecream, which we pretended was healthy for us.

So healthy food surprised me, maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Eating healthy, cycling everywhere, maybe this is the new me? Watch out, I might stop drinking cocktails! ... that would be the day.

  2. Looks lovely, but agree it sounds pretty pricy, particularly for the juice. I do like how a lot of restaurants are embracing health now though, makes it a bit easier to watch the waistline ;)

  3. I love that you named your bike - I always name my bags! :)

It's so nice to see places offering things for veggies and vegans that are a bit more exciting than their usual risotto and stuffed pepper offerings.
