Big Easy Bottomless Brunch, Covent Garden

Big Easy Bottomless Brunch, Covent Garden

It feels like I haven’t had a restaurant review up on here in absolutely ages. Sorry about that. But today I bring to you the Big Easy bottomless brunch option. Big Easy is a crab shack and smokehouse style restaurant that specialises in those good old southern comfort foods, so when I heard they did a brunch, well, I couldn’t say no. Isn’t comfort food, what brunch was designed for?

They have 3 restaurants in London, Kings Road, Canary Wharf, and Covent Garden, there I went. I love the Covent Garden area… ok, not the main square so much as it gets just a little too mad with all the jugglers and men pretending to be Yoda statues (I just don’t get that fascination?!) but down the streets off the main square are some fantastic shops, bars and restaurants.

Walking into Big Easy and your eyes have to adjust a little as it’s pretty dark and also heavily red tinted. Also it’s packed. Seems like everybody knows where the brunch is at.

We sat down and took a gander at the menu. I’d read all about their bottomless boozy brunch (or unlimited as they call it). You choose from either a pork feast or lobster feast and then either processco, wine or ‘Big Easy Brew’. Oh and when I say bottomless, I really do mean that, including the food!

Not feeling like lobster this early, I went for the pork feast, whilst Dan thought he’d try the a la carte, and go for BBQ Frittata with mac and cheese.

Now I do want to say, that whilst the alcohol was unlimited, I wasn’t actually drinking that day- say whatttt? Basically the day before I was so hungover I thought I might actually die. So I was a little scared let’s just say. But the good news is if you don’t want to drink alcohol, then they do unlimited soft drinks or tea/coffee too.

Now, we came in and pretty much ordered straight away as we’d already looked at the menu online, so when 45 minutes passed since ordering we were starting to get a bit fidgety. Yes they were really busy, but people who came after us got there food before us. I’m not really sure what happened to our food, but we had to ask a couple of times as I think it got lost in the BBQ void…

But once it came, it was a big ol’ pile of food. There was so much that came with the bottomless brunch- and to think you can order more!

North Carolina Chopped Pork, Pit-Smoked BBQ Chicken and St.Louis Pork Ribs, with Pit-Smoked beans, fries and cornbread.

The BBQ chicken was delicious, really tender and flavoursome. You could taste that it had been roasted on a pit as it had that charred, earthy taste to it. The chopped pork was also good. I did ask for a little BBQ sauce as I did find it a bit dry on its own.

However sadly my most looked forward to item, the ribs, were my least favourite. Sadly I found them quite bland and with no real taste. They tasted just like plain ribs with no seasoning or additional flavours.

But back on the positive, Dan’s frittata was very good. As you can see there was lots of different flavour combinations from the pork, to the peppers to the cheese.

There was so much food, I swear I didn’t even get through half, which when our waitress came round asking if we wanted more, I couldn’t help but laugh a little.

I think the Big Easy bottomless brunch would be perfect for a group get together. It would be great to order a mixture of different plates and dishes and all share and pass around. Plus with bottomless booze, it sure would make for a great catch up- if you don’t suffer the same fate I did the previous day! Then after brunch, make sure you take a stroll around Covent Garden, there are some great things to see. Plus the walk will help you walk off some of that meat feast.
