What to do in Paris if you only have a day

Thursday 8 November 2018

Can Paris be done in a day? Well I guess that question really depends on where you are coming from. But if you are like me and coming from London, then absolutely.

Of course, there is far too much to do in Paris for just one day, but you can definitely make it a worth while day and experience a lot in such a short amount of time. Plus with the ease of the Eurostar, it's not too much hassle to pop back again in you missed anything.

But if you find yourself with a spare day and fancy a day trip, perhaps one weekend after a hard week at work, then here's some of my personal favourite things to do in Paris.

Stop off for hot chocolate at Angelina

Easily considered one of the best (if not the best) hot chocolate in Paris. Opened since 1908, Angelina  is a beautiful and traditional French tea room that is fancy yet not snooty. They do many things like pastries, light snacks and beautiful cakes. But it's the hot chocolate that people travel far from to get a taste of. It's an uber thick hot chocolate, rather like drinking melted chocolate. It really is a delight although do come hungry though as its practically a meal.

Visit the Eiffel Tower

Is it cliche? Of course it is, but heck when in Paris, it is almost like a right of passage. Now I'm not saying go queue up for hours to climb up the tower, but I think it's a really lovely experience to bask in its glory. It's in a great location, perfect for strolls along the river or if you go at the right time of year, maybe a picnic in its shadow.

Visit Napoleons tomb at the Dôme des Invalides

If you are a bit of a history buff like me, then you'll want to get in some historical attractions. Whilst places like the Arc du Triomphe are completely fine to look at from the outside, there are some that you really do need to go inside to appreciate.

Inside it really is absolutely stunning. Gold antiques, sculptures and heirlooms glisten through the Tain glass windows, and looking up the ceilings are covered in some of the most beautiful art work I've ever seen. If you enjoy architecture, art or just appreciate beauty, you could hostels spend a good few hours here.

Ride the Citroen helta skelta

Thats right! The Citroen showroom is not only a place for car lovers, they have a 5 story tall helta skelta! For a couple of euros, you can slide right down. I personally think all shops should have a concept.

Dine at Sur Mesure Par Thierry Marx

Still the best dining experience I've had in Paris; if you have the time (and the money) treat yourself to dinner or lunch at Sur Mesure Par Thierry Marx. A 2 Michelin Star restaurant serving Parisian food but with a truly gastronomical and creative twist. Think the French version of Heston.

I have a complete review on it here

Visit those Instagram hot spots

It's 2018 and I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to get a pretty photo or two for your feed. Paris is pretty much photogenic whatever street you stand on, but of course, there are a few hot spots everyone loves. My favourite is Avenue de Camoëns which is where the above was taken. It's a little blocked off road with a wall that overlooks the Eiffel Tower and makes for some very impressive photos. You might even spot a wedding shoot or two.

Paris is a wonderful city, and of course it can never be completed in a day, but i's definitely a city you can pop to for a day, explore and feel like you haven't wasted your time. These are some of my personal favourites. What are some of yours?
