Boyd's Brasserie

Saturday 14 September 2013

Having just moved to London, I've been making the most of my time here this week. I've been out every night, mostly to bars drinking which don't get me wrong is right up my street... speaking of which, Dean Street Townhouse- my new favourite cocktail bar. However there comes a point when a girls got to eat. Deciding where to eat in London I've found is like being asked to pick just one sweet in a sweet shop, how do you decide?

Luckily I had my much more decisive partner in crime to help me who said anywhere round Embankment. After a quick Google I took the plunge and booked Boyd's Brassiere, and let me tell you, it is a gem of a find.

A minutes walk from Trafalgar square, Boyd's is elegant, traditional and a pure showstopper. I got jitters just entering the place- was I dressed correctly? Would they cotton on to my typical Manchester accent? While truly elegant, it isn't pretentious though. Everyone had a warm smile on their face and didn't push when we took too long ordering because we were being typical woman and gossiping too much.

Then menu is unashamedly British which I loved. Think Lamb Shank, Beef Wellington and Eton Mess, however what attracted me was the twist they offer. British Tapas.

Devils on Horseback (Turns out these little morsels are hot prunes wrapped in bacon- who knew? But oh so delicious. Salty and sweet together in perfect harmony) Plus a jug of gravy!

Boyd's is undeniably stunning, I'm thinking this for my eventual new London home? Hum? Yeah me too, not grand enough...

We both opted for Chocolate Mousse, Popcorn Ice Cream, Salted Caramel Milkshake which was exactly what it said on the tin menu. The ice-cream honestly tasted like I was eating popcorn. Non of this artificial flavours and additive stuff you'd find in Tesco, this was homemade ice-cream blended with a lot of popcorn. I always stay clear of mousse usually as I feel lie its a bit airy nothing, however this was substantial enough to actually feel like a indulgent dessert.

I especially loved the milkshake touch as it made a unusual twist of the after dinner coffee.

We left feeling like we were society darlings, ladys who lunch, Sloany Ponies- until we had to board the tube back home. A girl can dream.
