Wishbone, Brixton

Forgive me readers for I have sinned. I'm here today to make my confession. I have a dirty secret.

I am in love with fried chicken.

Yes, that horrible, greasy take-out stuff, that has probably never actually been a chicken- that is what I love.

However, when Nessa caught me making eyes at the local 'PFC' (That's perfect fried chicken... apparently), it was evident an intervention was needed. So the quest for the real perfect fried chicken came about.

And that's how I discovered Wishbone in Brixton.

It was evident that real chickens had been harmed in the making of this fried chicken, just from the outside- butcher plastic curtains as doors? The seal of approval.

My mouth drooled, the menu was fried chicken heaven. Wings, thighs, PFC has nothing on this. All free range, and hand fried not on mass production and certainly no nasty chemicals... or God knows what else in those take-outs. *Shudder*.

However, first I have to tell you about their other menu- drinks.

Wishbone also double as a mini bar. Nothing complicated. Pick your base, your mixer, whether you want egg whites or not, bish bash bosh, and in a moment quicker than you can say "why did the chicken cross the road?" you'll be sipping the best sours this side of the river.

Nessa isn't quite as filthy as I me, and so wasn't well versed in the art of friend chicken. Unsure what to choose, I spied buffalo wings and immediately ordered a round for her.

Buffalo wings are the middle ground for those not too keen on fried chicken.

Tender, juicy and very spicy, prepared to get messy. Maybe don't take a date here...

Now I was prepared to order a big family size bucket of fried chicken, we I spotted this bad boy...

Fried chicken AND a burger? My perfect combo! Hit me up baby!

Spicy fried chicken, smothered in blue cheese sauce, with a hash brown sandwiched between a toasted bun. Oh lord, this stuff was heaven.

I promise I will never ever visit another PFC as long as I live.

Now if that wasn't enough to wet the appetite, I have to tell you about Wishbones unique offering that no PFC would ever do.

Be prepared to potentially have a heart attack just looking at it, but if you survive that then you will love.... deep fried mac and cheese.

Yes you did just read that right.

And yes, I may have just clogged my arteries, but it was so worth it.

wishbone12

I've got to tell you, the feeling of eating fried chicken, not at 2am in some disgusting take-out is a fantastic sensation- potentially life changing- yes people, take it from me, take-outs are bad news.

Fried chicken though, when done right is never bad news. Pass me the bone bucket I say!

  1. Ahhh all these meaty posts I keep finding make me so hungry but I've been veggie for 12 years and I'm not going to change it any time soon! Very interested in the Veggie block I can see peeking up at the bottom of the menu though :) and the deep fried mac and cheese, oh my God!

  2. I went here a while ago when The Gentleman and I lived not too far around the corner. We definitely didn't sample the delights of the deep fried mac and cheese! Pretty sure I would have picked it if I'd seen it on the menu. How genius are the cocktails though! Although, not too sure about the idea of having an egg in mine :/

They also didn't have the butchers plastic sheeting when we went!

Must make a note to go back!

  3. Ohhh this looks like heaven - no need to be ashamed of some fried chicken love! Think I may be paying Wishbone a visit soon... Have you tried the Soho House Chicken Shop in Kentish Town - I used to live just round the corner and it's one of the main things I miss about the area!

  5. I've never been to Wishbone but I've passed it several times! Looks so good, but I've always got other places in mind and fried chicken never seems to win.
Does look delicious though. Beats the late night chicken shops by a mile!

  7. That chicken that you love, that's called 'Dirty Chicken' and it's so ok to love that stuff. Honest. I might set up a little club for us.
But this is a different league! That burger looks phenomenal and I actually made involuntary grunting noises at the deep fried mac and cheese. The finest kind of food porn, thank you!
