Escape to the Country

London’s great; a real feast for the adventurer. Those who want excitement are guaranteed to find something here, whether it is a new bar, restaurant or just some random show happening down a side street. However sometimes it can feel like your going 100 miles per hour and that you just want everything to just stop for a second and hold up. Feeling a little like this, me and Dan decided to pack up the car and go for a little trip into the country side. Packing a box full of sausages, coal and wine- we were off camping!

“You do realise babe you cant take any heels with you?” Cheeky thing.

We drove to the hills of Shropshire where there isn’t a soul about for miles. Utterly beautiful, the hills just ramble on for miles. We stopped every so often, just to get out and take it all in. Just look at that view.

We arrived late on the Friday afternoon to our campsite, meeting up with some of Dan's old school friends. We decided to go with the country bumpkin vibe, and went all old school.

Which is why I have to give a little mention to this beauty. Dan’s pride and joy, a 1974 Ford Mk1 Escort which he’s worked on for probably 6 years now. He and the car are actually going to be featured in next months Classic Ford Magazine- so if your into you're cars, look out for it.

We left the luxuries at home, and went back to nature with tepees and retro suitcases.

Is that a tape player I spy? Why yes it is! Maybe there is a boho chic in me after all.

In fact we'd gone so far as to leave our whole manic world of London so far far behind, we decided indulge in a different way that usual.

By whacking out this bad boy! Pokemon Blue. Charmander I choose you!

You wouldn't think that we both work for Investment Banks would you?

Of course, its a summer necessity in Britain to whack out a BBQ as soon as a hint of sun peeps through the clouds, and so breakfast, lunch and dinner were cooked over Charcoal. Just take it from me, Nachos DO NOT WORK. They taste like cigarette butts... mmmmm

Ok so I may have lied about the luxuries... I did sneak in a minuture bottle of  fancy Gin. Sorry Dan, I have cant stoop to cheep booze.

Also being a keen photographer too, we decided to explore the area and go for a true country ramble into the forest. Those who errr photograph together, stay together.... errr yeah you know that quote.

But if scenery like this, I can be forgiven,

Over the course of the weekend, we had gone from freezing cold, to baking hot. Getting mud in our shoes, and twigs in our (ok just mine) hair. Yet I couldnt have been happier. However, we whilst getting back to nature was a great escape, we coudlnt resist a little party if one came along.

The Bridges pub was hosting a Sin Eater Festival near by to our campsite. The term sin-eater refers to a person who, through a ritual, would take on by means of food and drink the sins of a household. It's at a special time of the year that all your sins can be repented.

Although with my behaviour there, I don't think I'll be allowed to repent me sins. Probably sacrilege.

Even Dan felt ashamed...

We feasted, drank and danced to some of the bands that played. Although they wouldn't let me ride on this beast...

We ended our camping adventure with the whole group going for a little rest and recovery in the stream.

Although with 4 lads and 2 girls, it was never going to be that relaxed!

London I do love you, but out of London is just as fun.

  1. That all looks so fun! Everyone needs to do this once in a while and just un-plug themselves.

  2. Seems like you had a wonderful trip! Made perfect with the addition of Pokémon Blue - impressed to see that your Game Boy Advance is still going strong after all these years, my Game Boy Colour's a bit worse for wear now ;)
