The Greek Larder

The Greek Larder (6)

Wow. What a week that was. Things have been a little slow on the blog recently, and I apologies for that, but I’m afraid sometimes life just gets in the way.

I pretty much had the week from hell last week. OK the Monday from hell, which made me feel utter shit all week. I didn’t go out, I didn’t want to do anything but stay in, watch The Office US (my new addiction) and eat dinner in bed.

I just had nothing to blog about I’m afraid.

However I am back, things are looking up I’ve got a few things up my sleeves that I have to tell you about.

But first, let me show you a Greek delight.

There were many factors for this lunch date. One, I needed cheering up, two, I wanted to get a little piece of my Greek holiday back, and Three, the most important, I hadn’t seen Caroline in ages!

We met at The Greek Larder, a breezy little restaurant in Kings Cross.

Light, airy, it was very homely yet chic with its ‘Retro’ food cans as decoration.

First though, I think drinks were in order. I needed one after this week. Stuff dry January.

When we were in Greece, we shared everything so neither of us got the dreaded food envy.

So with the Greek spirit firmly in us we ordered a variety of small plates, much to horror of the waitress when we tried to order more.

“No it will be too much for you!”

I beg to disagree, but I’ll pretend to be a normal person.

No starters, no mains as such, just a big ol’ table filled with food to pick and choose from as we chatted about everything. And I mean everything.

I’m going to get a little gushy now. This is why I love Caroline so much. Honestly nothing is off bounds with her. We discuss everything, from the embarrassing, to the hilarious, to the sensitive stuff. We hadn’t seen each other in ages, and yet it was like it was yesterday.

Honestly, she is just the bestest (totally a legit word) friend a girl could have.

However what else is a girl’s best friend?

Diamonds? Forget those chippings, I’m talking food here!

We had Venison and Risotto

Octopus and fava bean puree.

The Greek Larder (15)

Fried Flatbread and dips

The Greek Larder (14)

Kefalotiri saganaki, charred red onion and candied chanterelles

The Greek Larder (13)

Filo pastry rolls with spinach and ricotta, with fennel salad.

Now the food was nice, it's a great little lunch spot, however I wasn't blown away. Alot of things lacked a depth of flavour.

The puree for example didn't really taste of much, and the venison needed seasoning.

However there were a couple of things I really loved. The flatbread was just great, so naughty as it was fried, but so worth it.

Then the saganaki cheese. Oh that was definitely good. Pile me with flatbread and cheese and I'd never have a bad day again. I do think though, it is a brilliant lunch date spot, for having a good ol' get together, and is worth visiting.

I. Just. Don't. Know.

The Greek Larder (5)

Although it might have had something to do with the ouzo that followed.

You know what? I soon forgot about my crappy week. Although I'm not sure if that was Caroline or the Ouzo...

  6. I have kind of had a week like this too - this week though, not last week. It's so strange. I've done lots but just nothing that can be blogged about. It's annoying too as I have to split my posts with Ben now and decide who can blog about what!

Glad you're feeling better now. Gutted I'm not seeing you girls next month anymore. We'll have to have a girly evening soon!
