Down Motcomb Street

Monday 8 February 2016

I'd like to think of myself as a bit of an explorer. I rarely eat at the same restaurant twice; always eager to try the next best thing, and I'm always keen to visit a new county.

However one area of London I have to admit I've never been to before is Belgravia. I'll be honest, I used to think of Belgravia as a place where rich people lived, usually inhabited by the super rich from abroad who didn't actually live in the properties. So in essence, a little bit dull.

Well I'm not the only one, which is why I spent Saturday down on Motcomb Street, Belgravia to see that there is actually some amazing Boutiques and restaurants. And let me tell you, it's actually quite the gem.

Gorgeous cobbled streets, with the prettiest white buildings, the area has the feel of an upmarket village. Intimate, relaxed and with some beautiful boutiques. It's the kind of place you'd want to go into on a weekend when you have some time to lazily wander.

With Valentines Day coming up, we decided to get organised for the occasion, and headed to Neill Strain, Floral Couture (A luxury florist) to get some flowers.

Neill Strain is the go to florist for celebrities, events and those grand gestures. His shop is adorned with every kind of flower you could imagine, casting colours and smells you could only dream of usually.

But it's not just inside that is beautiful, outside is pretty amazing too. Just look at that entrance!

Neill gets all his flowers flown in from Holland, and unlike some companies which get them from warehouses, Neill's and picked especially for him and from picking to being in the shop, is less than 24 hours.

Whilst there were some gorgeous displays, isn't it better when you give it that personal touch? So today I was going to make my own table piece. The above was the professional one which I was trying to recreate. Here goes...

After lot's of snipping and re-arranging, we had finished. Mine was the front one. What do you think? Not bad eh? Well if blogging goes wrong, I might have a Saturday job...

Soon we headed back out onto the cobbled streets and went to the next on our Valentines list, and somewhere I couldn't wait to get to. Pierre Hermé.

Pierre Hermé is a French patisserie famous for macarons. Think Laduree without the tourists. They are also famous for their unusual flavor combinations, leading to Vogue magazine dubbing the man himself "The Picasso of Pastry".

Pierre Herme Belgravia (11)

The shop is any girls (or guys) dream. Filled with sweet, colorful treats at every corner. What I love though is that Pierre Hermé is a fun brand. Some of their boxes have cartoon designs, and the packaging is in bright, cheerful colours. It's luxury, don't get me wrong, but it's fun and accessible. Something which I always thought Belgravia wasn't.

Macarons have been around for a good while now, and so the generic chocolate, strawberry and pistachio can get a bit boring. Well how about these flavours to reawaken your macaroon love?

Passion fruit and chocolate- and trust me, the passion fruit was so strong and refreshing, it was like having a slice of passion fruit right there sandwiched between.

Now this is a weird one I'll admit- chocolate and foie gras! Foie Gras! It sounds gross, but actually, somehow it really works.

There was also violet and liquorice, and even olive oil!

You could spend hours choosing, and maybe end up getting more than just a gift for your loved one. Well one for them, one for me, right?

Or if your not really into your macarons, fear not, there's a whole host of other goodies just for you.

With so many flavours, you really can't be expected to choose, so pick a big ol' box and snuggle up at Valentines and share them with your love or just your bestie.

Motcomb street really is a hidden gem in among the chain-y streets of London. So much so I couldn't fit everything in in one post, so stay tuned for some dinner and hotel gems next!

  6. The prices were very reasonable, and the flowers were very high quality. I have used them twice now for gf birthday flowers, she loved them both times. Couldn't be better. Staff with San Francisco Florist is very professional, and very courteous.
