The Secret Garden, Switzerland

Monday 1 August 2016

I thought after the first day in Ticino I was fully accustomed with how gorgeous this place was. But no, there was still more to completely stun me.

We headed to Morcote, a little lakeside town with gorgeous little alleyways, and of course this stunning view. But what bowled me over was Scherrer park. Hidden completely out of sight, it felt very much like my own secret garden.

But to get to it, you must pass the houses of the rich, who look across Lake Maggiore and into the rolling mountains.

Barely able to drag my eyes away from the gorgeous lake, we found Parco Scherrer. A mixture of art and plants from around the world, it's stunning, tranquil and really something to behold.

Every which way there was magic. I feel my photos don't serve it true justice, as it really was extraordinary, and as you can see, not another sole in sight.

I think I must have spent a good few hours in there, as there was so much to see. The views were stunning. The flowers, the art, the atmosphere. Everything. Even if you just go in and sit and read a book, it is bound to relax you.

For once I had to be dragged away for food. I know, a possibly once in a lifetime occurrence. But with the promise of delicious Swiss-Italian food, I couldn't resist.

And with this view I wasn't disappointed. Dinner was at Restaurant Ai Giardini di Sassa, a 4* hotel high up in the hills with the best views.

If I didn't love my hotel so much, I'd be tempted to stay here. That pool view!

Shiny.

I honesty think this is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Ticino is incredibly breathtaking. I never expected Ticino to be like this. But gosh, I want to move here just for those views everyday.

Back inside it was time for dinner. I might have been dragged away from my beautiful views, but the food was a glorious sight. Smoked salmon with lemon and chive cream cheese. Smoked salmon is one of my favourite things, and this did not disappoint.

For mains it was grilled snapper. I'd never had snapper before, but it was rather good, and just on the right side of salty. Some places over salt their fish way to much lately.

Finally mille feuille. A masterpiece of a creation if you ask me. Just look at those layers.

Dinner was delightful, especially with those views as a backdrop. As the sun set, the most amazing colours beamed across the valley. Oh how I love this place.

  1. I adore Switzerland, I visited four years ago and am desperate to return. We looked into getting married there but ultimately decided we wanted to make sure more family could attend. Such a stunning country! x
