Love Letters To London

Monday 6 February 2017

Ah Valentine’s Day. The fast approaching event which always seems to divide people. Personally though I really like it. Everyone who says “But you should be treating your other half special everyday of the year” Well sure, but come on, I know sometimes when I get in from a bad day at work, I just want to be left alone, and don’t always think about showering my boyfriend with love and attention. So I quite like that it’s a day to put some thought and effort in to actually showing that person that despite my grumpy behavior sometimes, I really do care.
But you know what I also love? London.

For me, London had such a special place in my heart for many, many different reasons. London has been the epicenter of my most incredible journey.

My blog

I can’t start a blog post about London, without first starting with my blog. I mean my blog was born because of London. I was moving down to London to start my new job after graduating, and I started writing about the places I discovered, what I was getting up to, and generally my London adventures.
I’ve always called this blog a sort of girl about town diary for that reason. Through my blog, I’ve been able to discover some of the most amazing aspects of London, from discovering tucking into afternoon tea at Claridges, going to the top of the Gherkin to eating dinner from a 100ft crane in Canary Wharf! But of course, writing about London, also helped my blog to grow too, as people searching for things to do in London, find and read my blog every day. It’s awesome really to think that people associate me with this great city now. I mean I'm also ranked as the No.3 London Lifestyle Blogger!

Love

I didn’t strictly meet my boyfriend in London, but we fell in love in London. I met Dan at university nearly 8 years ago. We were good friends for 4 years, before he moved to London, and then I moved to London about a year later. I didn’t know anyone in London at the time except Dan, so we started meeting up a lot, and I realised that I didn’t just want to be his friend anymore. 3 and a half years later and we just moved into our first house together last week.

If it wasn’t for London, I think we’d still be he’d still be in the friend zone! Also massive shout out to Dean Street Townhouse, the cocktail bar where we met up for the first time and bonded over cocktails. Can I say that was our first date, even though I didn’t know at the time it was “a date?”

Friendship

London is where I’ve found my true friends I know I’ll have for life. I wasn’t one the lucky girls who made her friends for life at university, and I didn’t keep my childhood friends either, but London is where I’ve found women who I love and can tell them anything. Sometimes when we go out for cocktails, I feel like Sex and The City. And what woman doesn’t want to be in that circle? It’s funny, I actually met my two best friends on the internet! Basically I moved to London, didn’t know anyone (except Dan) and so tweeted out, who wants to meet up? Probably a stupid idea looking back as it could have been very dangerous, but luckily it worked out just fine, and I met the lovelies that are Helen and Caroline.

Then on the hour, every hour – at 7pm till 11pm – the Eye will pulse for one minute, mimicking a beating heart at the centre of the capital.
